📈 DRILL PIPE PRESSURE SCHEDULE — WAIT & WEIGHT

ICP=—   FCP=—   Stks→Bit=—   Total=—
Driller's Method — 2 Circulations: 1st circ: Hold SICP constant on casing while circulating influx out with original MW.
2nd circ: Shown above — ramp DP pressure from ICP → FCP as kill mud pumped to bit, then hold FCP to surface.

📋 Pressure Checkpoint Table

DRILLER'S METHOD — Overview

Two-circulation method. The first circulation removes the influx using original mud weight. The second circulation pumps kill mud to bottom while holding the correct drill pipe pressure. Advantage: can begin circulating immediately — no time lost weighting mud.

FIRST CIRCULATION — Remove Influx

1
Notify company man, driller, and toolpusher. Record all data: SIDPP=—, SICP=—, Pit Gain=—
2
Calculate ICP = SIDPP + SCR = —
ICP = SIDPP + SCR_at_kill_rate
3
Open choke slowly. Start pump at kill rate. Bring pump pressure up to ICP = — while opening choke.
4
1st Circ: Hold casing pressure CONSTANT at SICP = — throughout. Adjust choke to maintain this pressure.
5
Monitor influx arriving at surface. Watch for pressure excursions. Total strokes = —
6
When kick arrives at surface (strokes = —), gas rate at choke will increase. Continue circulating until original SICP is achieved at surface.
7
After 1st circulation complete: shut in well. Verify SIDPP = 0 (if all influx cleared). If SIDPP still reads, continue circulating.

SECOND CIRCULATION — Kill Well

8
Weight up kill mud to KMW = — (—) while well is shut in. Verify density with mud balance before circulating.
9
MAASP = —. Do NOT exceed this on casing during 2nd circulation. Draw pressure schedule: ICP → FCP over — strokes.
10
Open choke. Start pump at kill rate — SPM. Bring DP pressure to ICP = —.
11
Follow pressure schedule: ramp DP pressure from ICP → FCP = — as kill mud reaches bit. Adjust choke to maintain schedule.
12
Once kill mud at bit (stroke = —): hold DP at FCP = — (—) constant until kill mud reaches surface.
13
Monitor casing pressure continuously. If approaching MAASP = —, slow pump and bleed choke.
14
When kill mud fills annulus: casing pressure should read 0. Shut down pump. Flow check. Verify well is static.

WAIT & WEIGHT METHOD (Engineer's Method) — Overview

Single-circulation method. Kill mud is prepared first, then pumped in one circulation. Lower maximum casing pressure than Driller's Method — preferred where shoe integrity is marginal.

PREPARATION (while shut in)

1
Record: SIDPP=—, SICP=—, Pit Gain=—
2
Calculate KMW = —
KMW = MW + SIDPP / (k × TVD)
3
Calculate ICP = — and FCP = —
ICP = SIDPP + SCR ; FCP = SCR × KMW / MW
4
Draw pressure schedule: DP pressure decreases linearly from ICP to FCP over — strokes (surface to bit). Then hold FCP to surface.
5
MAASP = —. Do NOT exceed this on casing during circulation.
6
Weight up kill mud to KMW = —. Verify density before circulating.

CIRCULATION — Single Kill Circulation

7
Open choke slowly. Start pump at kill rate — SPM. Bring DP pressure to ICP = —.
8
Follow pressure schedule: ramp DP pressure from — → — over — strokes. Adjust choke to maintain schedule.
9
Once kill mud at bit: hold FCP = — constant. Continue until kill mud returns to surface.
10
Total strokes to clear annulus = —. When complete, shut pump. Flow check.
11
Monitor casing pressure continuously. If casing pressure approaches MAASP = —, slow pump and bleed choke.

VOLUMETRIC METHOD — Overview

Used when circulation is NOT possible (pipe off bottom, nozzles plugged, etc.) and gas is migrating. Maintains constant BHP by controlled pressure bleed-down. Referenced from BP/Shell Well Control Manuals.

SETUP

1
Determine Safety Margin (Ps) = — and Working Pressure (Pw) = —
Recommended: Ps = 100 psi / 700 kPa ; Pw = 100 psi / 700 kPa
2
Allow pressure = SICP + Ps = — (initial working pressure)
3
Calculate hydrostatic pressure increase per bbl bled:
Hp/bbl = MW_grad / Ca_ann = G_mud (psi/ft) / Ca (bbl/ft)
Bleed Vol per Step = —

CYCLIC BLEED PROCEDURE (repeat until gas at surface or kill possible)

4
Monitor casing pressure. When Pcsg reaches —, open choke.
5
Bleed — through choke at constant choke pressure. Do NOT allow pressure to drop below allow pressure.
6
Close choke. Allow pressure to build again by Pw = — (gas migration). Repeat cycle.
7
Monitor pit volume for bleed volumes. When gas reaches surface, continue bleeding at constant choke P until gas free mud flows.
8
Once gas bled out: reassess well status. Start kill circulation if pipe is in open hole position. Otherwise continue volumetric until kill achieved.
⚠️ Monitor MAASP = — at all times. If casing pressure approaches MAASP, reduce Ps and Pw.

BULLHEADING — Overview

Pumping kill fluid down the annulus or drillstring to force the influx back into the formation. Used when: H₂S near surface, drillpipe parted, circulation impossible, or gas at surface in workover. Requires company engineer sign-off.

PRE-BULLHEAD CHECKS

1
Confirm: surface equipment rated ≥ —. Check all wellhead connections.
2
Verify formation can accept fluid. Formation P = —. Shoe frac. P = —.
3
Prepare kill mud. Confirm density adequate: KMW = —.

BULLHEADING PROCEDURE

4
Close annular BOP. Monitor wellhead pressure. Start pump at LOW rate. Increase pump rate gradually.
5
Required surface pump pressure = — (minimum to force fluid to formation). Monitor continuously.
6
DO NOT exceed shoe fracture pressure = — at the surface. This would cause formation breakdown.
7
Pump kill volume = string volume — + excess (1.5×). Monitor pressure decay indicating fluid accepted by formation.
8
Shut in. Monitor pressure. If pressure stays low: well killed. If rises: gas still migrating. Repeat or switch method.
🚨 Bullheading H₂S gas may concentrate it at surface. Ensure H₂S monitors active, crew briefed, safe muster stations set.

LUBRICATE & BLEED — Overview

Used when gas is at or near surface and volumetric method cannot reduce pressure sufficiently. Kill mud is pumped ("lubricated") in via choke/kill line while gas is bled off from annulus. Net effect: replace gas with kill mud, raising BHP incrementally.

PROCEDURE

1
Record initial casing pressure = —. Set target allow pressure.
2
Pump kill mud (KMW=—) through kill line: Volume per step = —
V_lube = ΔP_target / (G_kmw − G_gas)
3
Close kill line. Wait for kill mud to fall to bottom (density separation). Allow pressure to stabilise.
4
Bleed gas from choke line until pressure drops by ΔP = —. Monitor volumes carefully.
5
Repeat steps 2–4. Each cycle: BHP increases by increment as kill mud replaces gas. Monitor casing pressure trend downward.
6
When casing pressure approaches 0 and flow check confirms no flow: well killed. Verify mud weight at returns = KMW before opening BOPs.
⚠️ MAASP = —. Do not allow casing pressure to exceed MAASP at any point during lubrication.
